To quote the Los Angeles Times from the Trio Voronezh website, the concert promises “three players, alone on a large open stage, filling every crevice with their rich, imaginatively conceived music.”

The trio was educated at the Academy of Music in Voronezh, south of Moscow. They honed their skills for years playing small concert halls throughout the Netherlands, Germany, and France. By the time they made it to the United States at the end of the last century, they were highly skilled and received wide acclaim.

Attending this concert series is the perfect way to finish a weekend at our St Charles bed and breakfast. Then again, it is the perfect way to start a week at our St. Charles inn. A getaway to St. Charles will combat the mid-winter blues. Warm and cozy at the inn, with good food and drink and luxurious accommodations, you can’t help but feel content. The uplifting music of the Trio Voronezh will enhance that feeling.

Russian Ballet Comes to St. Charles

Monday, January 4th, 2010

We are lucky to have a Broadway style theater the likes of The Bezemes Family Theater here in St. Charles, Missouri. Part of the J. Scheidegger Center for the Arts at Lidenwood University, it is just blocks away from our St. Charles bed and breakfast. The J. Scheidegger Center for the Arts is one of the most impressive facilities in the region.

The Russian State Ballet will perform Swan Lake at the Bezemes Theater on January 22, 2010, at 8pm. The Russian State Ballet has been a leading ballet company for over twenty years; its goal is to “preserve the heritage of the Russian and West-European choreography” while also exploring newer forms of dance.

This is a full length ballet in four acts, so once you find your seats, you should make yourselves comfortable. Tchaikovsky’s score and choreography by Marius Petipa and Lev Ivanov come together to create an enchanting performance that you will not want to miss.

If you are a ballet fan and plan to travel any distance to see this ballet, we hope you’ll stay at our historic St. Charles inn. Close to the Bezemes Theater, we are also in the heart of Historic St. Charles. Meander along Main Street prior to the show, choosing from among the many excellent restaurants there. Arrange for a bottle of wine to be in your room along with chocolates that you may share after the show. In the morning, you’ll be delighted by the gourmet breakfast we serve in our historic dining room.

Make of weekend of it, and take advantage of all St. Charles has to offer while you are here. It’s a perfect way to help you through the mid-winter season.

Decadence for a good cause

Decadence for a good cause

For many of us, the best thing about the holidays is the food. Social gatherings mean oodles of hors-d’oeuvres and dozens of desserts. We love everything about the home-made cookies and breads shared among friends and the spectacular creations at catered events. Let’s face it, the holidays just plain taste good.

That’s why we are so thrilled about the upcoming event at our St. Charles inn: An evening with Bissinger’s Chief Chocolatier, on Friday, December 11 at 7pm. We’ll feed you tasty tapas, then you’ll launch into tasting with Terry Wakefield. Learn about his craft while you sample it. Discover wines that will bring out the best in a chocolate, and vice-versa.

Indulge and enjoy.

Proceeds from this event will go towards the preservation of the historic 1791 Borromeo log church, close to our St. Charles b&b.

Holiday Concert Supports Borromeo Log Church

Tuesday, November 24th, 2009

We are pleased to sponsor the upcoming Holiday Concert at “The Conservatory,” close to our St. Charles historic inn. Proceeds from the Concert benefit the St. Charles Borromeo Log Church, a lovely historic building dating from 1791.

You certainly won’t want to miss the amazing 19th century guitar and fiddle music of Thom Howard and Tom Verdot. But you may also enjoy attending the Silent Auction prior to the concert.

Check out the packages at our St. Charles bed and breakfast – you may find it worth your while to extend your trip a few days so you can benefit from extended hours at local shops on Wednesday and Friday nights.

Don't miss this extraordinary performance

We are thrilled to announce that the mesmerizing Erin Bode will perform at our St. Charles inn on Sunday November 29, 2009.

Sincerity shines through her personality and her folk-jazz voice. Her music includes adaptations of classics and, more recently, her own creations. She has performed at venues from Italy to South Africa, including Blues Alley in Washington D.C. and Sweet Rhythm in New York. It is an honor to have her here in St. Charles.

Derek Lauer writes of Ms. Bode in Playback, “More than just a beautiful girl with a beautiful voice, the lyrics and tone of the songs embody the spirit of the American midwest.”

Start your holidays with a special, intimate holiday concert in our historic inn. The venue exudes warmth and hospitality. An evening with Erin Bode in this setting is sure to be unforgettable.

St. Charles is Full of Christmas Spirit

Tuesday, November 17th, 2009

St. Charles, MO is full of Christmas Spirit, which is one reason it is so fun to stay at our bed and breakfast St. Charles during the holiday season. There is almost always something interesting happening on historic Main Street, and this is particularly true from Thanksgiving through the New Year.

Starting November 28, 2009, Christmas Parades will take place on Saturdays and Sundays at 1:30. You’ll see Santas from around the world, and historic figures such as the Town Crier and Jack Frost pictured here. Carolers, dressed in authentic historic garb, fill the air with sweet sounds. Shops stay open late (Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays), horse-drawn carriages clippety-clop on the stone streets, and the general bustle of the town takes us back to another time. Can you think of a better way to prepare for the holiday season than to visit St. Charles?

The holidays should always include a stay in a historic bed and breakfast in St. Charles; it is a great time to take advantage of our packages, such as the Girls Girls Girls Special and the Colonial Christmas Special. Wednesday, Thursday and Friday are great nights to travel here, since you benefit from extended hours at the downtown shops.

Even if you live close by in St. Louis, you will be amazed what a different experience a weekend in St. Charles can be. You won’t just feel like you’ve gone away for the weekend – you’ll feel like you’ve gone back in time.
