Women Visit St. Charles

Tuesday, March 9th, 2010

Since March is National Women’s History Month, it is the perfect time for you to call your best girlfriends and take over our St. Charles bed and breakfast. Take advantage of our Girls, Girls, Girls special and leave the fellows at home for once. You’ll discover how invigorating it can be to relive the slumber parties of your youth.

This one will be a bit more elegant, of course. We’ll pamper you with wine, fine chocolates and luxurious French and Spanish spa products. Your most difficult decision will be whether to indulge in a facial and manicure or a massage.

We’ll arrange a carriage ride through lovely historic St. Charles for you before dinner. After dinner (we are happy to recommend our favorite restaurants), gather together for a “chick flick” and snacks in your room.

While in town, stop by the Foundry Art Center. From now through March 26, there is a fascinating exhibit entitled Contemporary Women Artists XV Art as Activism. It is a perfect activity for National Women’s History month.

If you are here on Friday, March 26th, Kim Massie will be performing at the Foundry. She is a master of Jazz, Blues, R&B and Soul. According the Foundry website, “fans love Kim; she makes them laugh, cry, reminisce and scream while she sings, hugs and captures the rhythms of your heart.”

There is plenty to do here, whether you are seriously relaxing or seriously exploring and having fun. Call your friends now, and book at room at our St. Charles bed and breakfast.

The next in the 2010 series is Marlissa Hudson, the American soprano with “incredible vocal endurance”. She trained at Duke University and the Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins University, winning acclaim and awards at both. She has performed with the Baltimore Symphony Pops Orchestra and at the Union Avenue Opera in St. Louis.

Ms. Hudson was raised in Saint Louis, and now makes her home there. We are thrilled to have her nearby, and hope she makes many trips to St. Charles.

Ms. Hudson’s March 7, 2010, performance at the St. John United Church of Christ will begin at 3 pm. Dr. Nancy Rubenstein, musicologist, will speak at 2:30 pm about Ms. Hudson and the music she will perform.

Saturday, February 13th, 2010

March marks a great moment for many students at Lindenwood. Graduate students are directing One Act Plays on March 11 – 13, 2010 at the Emerson Black Box Theater. A week later, undergraduates students follow suite, on March 18 – 20.

If your Lindenwood students are participating in one of these events, be there to support them. We are offering a Come See Me Package at our bed and breakfast St. Charles for just this type of event (although of course you don’t need an excuse to see your children). Enjoy a relaxing couple of days together, stealing moments with your student whenever you can.

Since some of the best conversations happen over delicious food, we’ve arranged for you to have dinner at The Vine, directly across the street from our St. Charles inn. We hope your student will join you for breakfast here in the morning, and linger over coffee.

These are special times with your sons and daughters. Come see what they have been learning at Lindenwood. Share in their success.

The Crescendo Concert Series

Monday, January 11th, 2010

The next concert in the Crescendo Concert Series will be Sunday, January 24, 2010, at 3pm. You won’t want to miss Trio Voronezh, a Russian Folk Instrumental Trio.

To quote the Los Angeles Times from the Trio Voronezh website, the concert promises “three players, alone on a large open stage, filling every crevice with their rich, imaginatively conceived music.”

The trio was educated at the Academy of Music in Voronezh, south of Moscow. They honed their skills for years playing small concert halls throughout the Netherlands, Germany, and France. By the time they made it to the United States at the end of the last century, they were highly skilled and received wide acclaim.

Attending this concert series is the perfect way to finish a weekend at our St Charles bed and breakfast. Then again, it is the perfect way to start a week at our St. Charles inn. A getaway to St. Charles will combat the mid-winter blues. Warm and cozy at the inn, with good food and drink and luxurious accommodations, you can’t help but feel content. The uplifting music of the Trio Voronezh will enhance that feeling.

Russian Ballet Comes to St. Charles

Monday, January 4th, 2010

We are lucky to have a Broadway style theater the likes of The Bezemes Family Theater here in St. Charles, Missouri. Part of the J. Scheidegger Center for the Arts at Lidenwood University, it is just blocks away from our St. Charles bed and breakfast. The J. Scheidegger Center for the Arts is one of the most impressive facilities in the region.

The Russian State Ballet will perform Swan Lake at the Bezemes Theater on January 22, 2010, at 8pm. The Russian State Ballet has been a leading ballet company for over twenty years; its goal is to “preserve the heritage of the Russian and West-European choreography” while also exploring newer forms of dance.

This is a full length ballet in four acts, so once you find your seats, you should make yourselves comfortable. Tchaikovsky’s score and choreography by Marius Petipa and Lev Ivanov come together to create an enchanting performance that you will not want to miss.

If you are a ballet fan and plan to travel any distance to see this ballet, we hope you’ll stay at our historic St. Charles inn. Close to the Bezemes Theater, we are also in the heart of Historic St. Charles. Meander along Main Street prior to the show, choosing from among the many excellent restaurants there. Arrange for a bottle of wine to be in your room along with chocolates that you may share after the show. In the morning, you’ll be delighted by the gourmet breakfast we serve in our historic dining room.

Make of weekend of it, and take advantage of all St. Charles has to offer while you are here. It’s a perfect way to help you through the mid-winter season.
