Within several blocks of our St. Charles inn you’ll find a number of excellent restaurants and many good shops. The architecture is lovely, the ambience delightful. Strolling the streets of our neighborhood is always a pleasure for locals and visitors alike.
Stroll our corner of historic South Main Street
In fact, you’ll fill hours without ever leaving the 300 block of South Main Street. Linger over drinks and dinner across the street at the Vine Wine Bar and Bistro. Learn how to create beautiful stained glass at The Glass Workbench. Pick up yarn and a pattern for your next knitting project at Knit and Caboodle. Or browse for books at Main Street Books, which has a great selection of books about the local area and its history.
There is usually an interesting event at Main Street Books on Saturday afternoons from 1 to 3 pm. All are welcome. The line up this month is as follows:
March 6 – Book signing with Laura Bradford, author of Sew Deadly and Kayla’s Daddy.
March 13 – Storyteller Mary Garret presents Frog and Friends and Courage and Wisdom.
March 20 – Book signing with Judy Moresi, author of Widow’s Walk.
March 27 – Book signing with Bill Mueller, author of Peaches and Cream, a collection of short stories.

A Historic St. Charles Valentine

It’s easy to imagine you are traveling back in time when you travel to historic St. Charles MO. Our inn is situated in the St. Charles National Historic District, where gas lights and stone and brick buildings from the 18th and 19th centuries line the streets. The sound of horse-drawn carriages making their way slowly down the brick streets will help set the mood.
The first clue that you’ve left the 21st century will be the note accompanying the bouquet of flowers in your room – written with a quill pen on hand-made paper and sealed with wax. Toast each other with champagne or mimosas before heading out on a carriage ride together. Wrapped in a blanket, you’ll warm yourself sipping hot chocolate and Bailey’s.
There are many excellent restaurants along historic Main Street, St. Charles, and please feel free to ask the innkeepers for recommendations if you feel overwhelmed by the selection.
When you return our St. Charles bed and breakfast, you’ll find chocolates and a bottle of red wine in your room. They are perhaps best consumed in your historic night attire: a 19th century sleeping shirt for him and a French Corset for her. You may want to bring your camera.
